How to Check for a Warrant in Mason
A Mason case belongs to the 55th District Court, not to any city bench. Every warrant check starts there.
- Read the citation for the 55th case number.
- Open the 55th District Court's active criminal and traffic report and read the run date in the upper left.
- Call the 55th criminal division with the full legal name and case number.
- For a civil contempt or debtor-examination matter, call the civil division instead.
- If a felony charge moved past the preliminary stage, ask the 30th Circuit Court Clerk.
Note: the report is a dated snapshot, so a Mason warrant may have been issued or recalled since the run date shown.
Mason Is the County Seat and Court Town
Mason packs more justice offices than any other city in Ingham County. The 55th District Court sits at 700 Buhl Street. The Sheriff's Office headquarters is at 630 North Cedar Street, and the Friend of the Court works from Mason too. All those doors in one place can mislead you. No shared warrant desk connects the courthouse and the Sheriff's Office. Neither one publishes a city warrant roster. The City of Mason's site is the county seat's local government page, with department contacts and city services.
In Mason, identify which office holds your case before driving anywhere, because it is usually the 55th.
The Mason Police Department and 55th District Court
The Mason Police Department is the city's own agency, with a non-emergency line at 517-676-2458 and an office at 201 West Ash Street. It posts no warrant list. The 55th District Court is the city's court. It serves all of Ingham County except Lansing and East Lansing. Mason, Leslie, Williamston, and nearby townships all file there. Divisions matter when you call. Criminal handles warrants and arraignments at 517-676-8405, civil takes 517-676-8401, and traffic answers at 517-676-8408.
Mason Warrant Checks Start at the 55th
The 55th District Court publishes the clearest public warrant list in Ingham County, covering criminal and traffic offenses. A run date appears in the upper left. The court warns that a Mason warrant may have been recalled or newly issued since that date. Civil division warrants are left out of it. Contempt of court and missed debtor examinations fall to the civil division in Mason, which answers those questions by phone. Use the report to start a warrant check, never to finish one. Only the court can say what is open today.
Types of Mason Warrants
Mason cases reach court through a criminal charge, a traffic ticket, or a civil filing. Any one of them can produce a warrant when a required step gets missed.
| Warrant Type | How It Arises | Who Issues It |
|---|---|---|
| Arrest warrant | A criminal charge supported by probable cause | A 55th judge or magistrate, or Circuit Court for a felony |
| Bench warrant | A missed court date or violated order in a 55th case | The 55th judge |
| Traffic warrant | An unanswered citation or a missed traffic date | 55th District Court, Traffic Division |
| Civil contempt warrant | A missed debtor examination or a violated civil order | 55th District Court, Civil Division |
Three of these Mason warrant types sit inside the court's criminal and traffic work. The fourth does not.
Mason Warrant Routes: Police vs Sheriff
Two agencies answer different questions in Mason. The Mason Police Department handles city police work and its own records, while the Ingham County Sheriff's Office runs the county jail and serves court orders across the county. Neither posts a public warrant list. Neither can confirm a 55th case status. The Mason Police Department page carries the city agency's contact details.
Use it for a police record, and use the 55th for a warrant question.
What a Mason Warrant Record Shows
A 55th case file carries the core fields any District Court file carries.
| Case Number | The court's file identifier. The Circuit payment search describes the shape as YY-XXXXXX-CCC. |
|---|---|
| Named Subject | The person named in the order. |
| Charge | The criminal, traffic, or civil matter at issue. |
| Issuing Court | 55th District Court, or the 30th Circuit Court after a felony transfer. |
| Warrant Date | When the court issued the order. |
| Bond or Fine | Any court-set amount. Not every case carries one. |
| Status | Open, served, recalled, or resolved. Only the court confirms this. |
A felony in Mason that clears the preliminary stage moves to the 30th Circuit Court. The case number changes with the transfer.
Mason Warrant Route for Civil Contempt
The 55th's public list is careful about scope. Its warrant page states that civil division warrants for contempt of court or a missed debtor examination in Mason cases are not included. That gap matters in a county-seat city. Both kinds of cases get filed here. A reader who checks only the criminal report can miss a civil warrant in Mason entirely. Call the civil division at 517-676-8401 with those questions.
The Circuit and FOC Connections in Mason
Two other courts touch Mason residents. The 30th Circuit Court handles felony trials, family matters, and probate. Its record office and a courtroom sit in Mason. The Ingham County Friend of the Court runs child-support enforcement from Mason. A show-cause process kicks in when a payer misses a hearing. The FOC says it prefers working with the payer over jail, and its 2026 handbook lists a $275 bench-warrant fee in that system. Neither body appears on the 55th's criminal warrant report.
Where Mason Sits in the 2024 Court Report
The 55th District Court's 2024 annual report counts cases disposed in a category it calls Inactive/Bench Warrant, covering Mason and the rest of its territory.
Those figures are dispositions, not a live count of open warrants, and the report offers no city-by-city split. Mason has no warrant number of its own.
Where Mason Warrants Fit With Ingham County
Mason seats a court serving most of Ingham County. Its records are both local and county-wide. A 55th case filed in Mason can carry a Williamston address or a township address just as easily as a Mason one.

The Ingham County warrant records page covers the other courts and the county-wide channels.
Public Access to Mason Warrant Records
Court records in Mason follow Michigan's access rules. Files are generally public unless a statute, court rule, or order makes them nonpublic, and juvenile matters stay restricted.
Key Rules:
Michigan Freedom of Information Act, MCL 15.231 et seq. - the state public-records law the county applies to its own agency records.
Court records are not county FOIA records. A 55th file request goes to the court clerk, not the county portal.
MCL 712A.28 - juvenile records are restricted, so their absence from a public search proves nothing.
